Milwaukee's 44-year wait is over. The Brewers are headed to the World Series for the first time since 1982, and only the second time in franchise history.
Milwaukee finished a four-game sweep of the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, closing it out on the road at Dodger Stadium on Oct. 15. The Brewers hit seven home runs in the series.
Garrett Mitchell supplied the decisive swing in the clincher. With the score tied 4-4 in the sixth inning, Mitchell hit his second home run of the series to put Milwaukee ahead for good.
The sweep came despite outside doubts about Milwaukee's power. The Brewers won 103 games in the regular season, the best mark in baseball, but national commentators questioned whether they could outslug a team like Los Angeles in October.
Fans celebrated on social media through the night, sharing watch-party and bar scenes and team celebration clips. American Family Field will host Games 1 and 2 of the World Series on Oct. 23 and 24.
