Hales Corners resident Bob Wilkes has kept his tickets from Game 3 of the 1982 World Series for 44 years, along with a pin marking that he was there.

The tickets cost $18 each at the time — roughly $62 in today's dollars — while most tickets for this year's World Series games are priced in the thousands. Wilkes attended the 1982 game with his father, who had never been to a World Series game before.

Milwaukee lost that game to St. Louis 6-2 at Milwaukee County Stadium, but Wilkes still recalls how locked-in the crowd felt on every pitch compared with a regular-season game.

He also remembers a simpler ballpark experience, including beer priced at a few dollars and fewer of the extras found at modern stadiums.

Wilkes said he will not pay thousands of dollars to attend this time and instead expects to watch on television, possibly at a bar with his wife. A fan since the Braves era at County Stadium, he hopes this year's Brewers team can finish the job and win the title Milwaukee celebrated as runner-up in 1982.
